Link BRAD for President of the Internet 2008
December 25th, 2007 at 2:37pm | No Comments“But Brad,” you may ask, “what the hell are you talking about?” Warranted, my good friend, warranted. As most things these days, it all started with a blog post back in 2003. Then, following some discussion, it was decided that the President of the Internet would be he or she who ranked #1 on Google ... read more »

Safari Plugins for the Firefox Convert
November 12th, 2007 at 12:15pm | 9 CommentsI finally installed Safari 3 this week and wow, am I impressed. I figured the speed increases were a marketing gimmick but you can really notice the difference. Pages render much quicker and Javascript runs much smoother, making the whole browsing experience that much more snappy. One page you can really notice the difference is ... read more »

Redesigned and more
November 5th, 2007 at 4:58pm | 7 CommentsIn a few weeks it will be exactly a year since I redesigned this site. It really has become an annual event. This time I’ve redesigned it but also rebranded and added new features. Rebranded I really liked the domain bradt.ca. I mean come on, firstname.lastname.com is pretty sweet. That is unless your last name ... read more »

Web Directions North 2008
October 16th, 2007 at 10:09pm | 1 CommentLast January I had a blast at Web Directions North here in Vancouver. Others must have as well because they’re hosting it here again this coming January. This year’s lineup of speakers include most of the rock stars from last year. In addition, Jonathan Snook will be showing off his Ajax-foo this year and a ... read more »

Blog Action Day – The Environment
October 16th, 2007 at 12:03pm | 3 CommentsSo apparently I missed blog action day yesterday. Since it involved such an important topic (the environment), I figured I’d put in a late post anyways. Today I went to the CMA‘s web site and completed the Do Not Contact Service registration. I’ve heard rumours that it doesn’t work very well, but hopefully it will ... read more »

Reopening coal mines in Cape Breton
September 27th, 2007 at 9:42am | 1 CommentI’m a regular listener of The Current on CBC Radio One, but Monday was the first time I sent an e-mail voicing my opinion. It turns out it was good enough to read on the air this morning, so I figured it’s good enough to post here. You can check out a podcast of the ... read more »

Farewell ActiveState, Hello Zenutech
August 16th, 2007 at 4:00pm | 4 CommentsAfter two great years with ActiveState, I finally said goodbye a few weeks ago. ActiveState is an amazing group of people. Everyone is extremely smart, passionate about their work, yet (this is the kicker in this industry) still very social. I will really miss the energy there. It was tough to leave, but I am ... read more »

Monetization of Facebook
July 31st, 2007 at 3:41pm | 3 CommentsI started writing a comment for Markus’ post about Facebook monetization, but it got long and post-worthy. Basically, Markus said that Facebook’s only two options to improve their advertising situation is to better position ads or find advertisers willing to pay higher CPM rates. I would argue there’s a third option that the Facebook team ... read more »

Power to the people
July 12th, 2007 at 1:10pm | 1 CommentMatt’s post pointed me to this article about film studio execs failure to understand their industry. I’ve previously expressed my frustration with the movie industry, their lack of understanding of what people want, and their unwillingness to make changes in their industry. This article strengthens that argument on another front. One of the best parts ... read more »

July 7th, 2007 at 7:12pm | 5 CommentsToday I finally finished booking flights for my big trip in August and September. I’m flying to Toronto to play in the Canadian Ultimate Championships with Blackfish, then to Fredericton for Pierre‘s wedding, then after visiting my family in Nova Scotia, I’m flying to Dublin, Ireland for my first travel experience outside North America.
