Weapons in space: A defining political issue

Space WeaponIn the past, I have written my opinion of putting weapons in space. For me, a political party’s firm stance on this issue can define their values and of course determine whether or not they are idiots.

The CBC is reporting that the Liberals just leaked they would seek an international ban on putting weapons in space. Although, I highly doubt that the United States would yield to an international concensus (hrrmm invading Iraq minus UN support) on this topic, it is still a clear statement from the Liberal party that they will at least give it their best shot to keep weapons out of space.

On the other hand, CTV is reporting that the Conservative party plans to re-open missile defense talks with the US. Hopefully, the polls will shift somewhat as Canadians catch wind of the Conservative pussy footing around this issue. From their shady addressing of this issue, we can only assume that what they are not saying would be unpopular with voters. I would guess that they wish to please the Bush administration by signing on with their missile defense program.
