Trans Fats May be Banned in Canada

Jack Layton As a follow up to my previous post “Super Size Me and China’s Superiority“, Canoe.ca is reporting that the NDP of Canada “…will introduce a motion in the House of Commons on Nov. 18 to outlaw the unhealthy fats found in everything from fast food to peanut butter. Canadians eat an average of 10 grams of trans fats a day – one of the highest rates in the world. A gram of trans fat is up to 10 times more dangerous to heart health than a gram of saturated fat.”

This is undoubtedly a step in the right direction to keep dangerous foods off of our shelves. With any luck the motion will pass and the bastard fast food lobbyists will go home with their tail between their legs.

It will be interesting to see if this motion passes as it will send a clear message to Canadians that Ottawa is taking measures to protect its people. It most definitely boosts my appreciation for the NDP, they may get my vote yet. I just have a hard time trusting the vacuum salesman that is Jack Layton. I think it’s the mustache.
