The CBC: Correcting Ignorant Americans

Rick Mercer: Talking to AmericansRecently, the CBC has been doing a good job of reporting the ignorance of Americans toward Canada. From what I remember, it started a few years ago with Rick Mercer: Talking to Americans, a wildly popular comedy special where CBC’s Rick Mercer interviews respected Americans and gets them to say ridiculous things like “Congratulations Canada, on your new 24-hour clock!” (Governor of Iowa)

On January 26th, 2005 CBC’s The Fifth Estate aired a documentary dubbed “Sticks and Stones” which focuses on the war of words dividing the United States into liberal and conservative, left and right, blue and red. The documentary highlights some recent anti-Canadian comments by American ignoramuses Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson. Bill O’Reilly’s highly conservative and often inaccurate show “The O’Reilly Factor” is also a focus of the documentary.

Ann Coulter CBC Interview
The highlight of the documentary by far is when the interviewer catches Ann Coulter stating that Canada participated in the Vietnam war (we didn’t) and calls her on it.

The Government of Canada’s most recent announcement that it will not participate in the US missile defence program will no doubt spark some more creative comments from our neighbors to the south.

The documentary video “Sticks and Stones” is available online from the The Fifth Estate’s website. If you’re not willing to watch the full 40 minute video, at least watch the short highlight clips by clicking the video pictures.

haha thats some funny stuff. I’ve been saying it for a long time, CBC is a great station, and The 5th Estate is a great show. They do awesome documentaries, and say stuff everyone else is not willing (or too scared) to say. Some people say that CBC is biased, or leftist, or similar things. But it’s not true. Because they are kinda funded by the goverment, they are actually subject to more scrutiny than other stations may be. If they show some bias the auditor or CHSR or whoever would be all over CBC immediatly. Anyway, haha, good post.
