Kayaking around Bowen Island

This past weekend Rebecca and I escaped the city for Bowen Island and some kayaking. It was nice to get out of the city for a bit. I had forgotten how relaxing kayaking was. Having grown up next door to a kayaking camp I had gone out a few times before. Rebecca had fun too despite one scary incident.

We captured lots of photos and I got a 360-degree video of the scenery from my kayak. Nice! No wait, fuckin’ nice! Next I have to try river kayaking.

Metric at The Commodore Ballroom

Just over a week ago, Luke, Bruce, JRay and I checked out the Metric show at The Commodore Ballroom on Granville Street. I of course sported my Chuck Norris “There is no chin behind Chuck Norris’ beard. There is only another fist.” t-shirt and met some cool people.

Metric put on a great show and it actually surprised me how polished their performance was. I was expecting something a little more raw, but still a great show. The Islands from Montreal put on a very interesting, instrumental rich opening performance.

IceHoles are Div 7 Champs!

The IceHoles achieved a league leading record during the regular season. Unfortunately that happened to be the record for most consecutive losses (10). But as always, the playoffs are a different beast. The IceHoles stepped it up a notch in the playoffs and ended up in the championship series with a 6-1-0 record. We ended up winning the first game in the series 5-3 rather painlessly, but the next game was anything but.

The Bears came out hungry and they were always on top of the puck. We didn’t get many shots on net, but Steve and Chad each netted one and we ended up tied 2-2 at the end of the 3rd with one of our men in the box. Just over a minute into OT, we cleared the puck down the ice and since this was the most room I had to skate all game and I was pissed at the ref for the lame-ass call that put us down a man with less than a minute to go in the game, I went hard, stole the puck from the defencemen behind their net and backhanded the winner in. IceHoles win it! Fuckin’ eh!

We celebrated late into the night and managed to stay out of trouble. Notice the paddy wagon in the photo on the left.
